China - Mingyang Electric, one of the five biggest wind power turbine suppliers in China, plans to raise $500 million in a share sale in the United States in September, in what could be the largest such listing by a Chinese company this year. Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Credit Suisse Group AG and Morgan Stanley are working on the deal. Reuters
Spain - Gamesa’s Board of Directors has resolved to end the company’s negotiations with Germany’s Bard and to roll out Gamesa’s strategy for the offshore wind market in the short and medium term using in-house resources. Gamesa press release
Spain - Spain has agreed with renewable energy associations to cut subsidies which have made the country leading producer of wind and solar power but saddled utilities with billions of euros of debt, says the Industry Ministry. The Ministry added in a statement that premiums paid to wind power producers above market prices would be cut by 35 percent in 2013, when a current subsidy scheme expires, while the hours would be reduced for which both wind and thermosolar plants would be eligible to receive premiums. Reuters
Germany - GL Renewables Certification (GL) has published its latest edition of guidelines for onshore wind turbines and components. In the 2010 edition of GL's guidelines, the procedures to obtain type and project certificates are described. Type certification comprises design assessment, implementation of the design requirements in production and erection, evaluation of quality management and prototype testing. GL Press Release
Denmark - Siemens will become shareholder (49 percent) in A2SEA A/S, a supplier of installation services for the construction of offshore wind farms. The Danish energy company, DONG Energy, will continue to be the main shareholder of the company. A2SEA in Fredericia, Denmark, employs about 200 people. Siemens´ goal of the engagement in A2SEA is to advance the industrialization of offshore wind power. A2SEA will now look into the possibility of expanding its installation capacity. DONG
UK - British projects will lead the offshore wind energy market for the next eight years. This conclusion is drawn by GL Garrad Hassan in the new edition of their "Offshore Wind Energy Market Report". Development of offshore wind will be strong in further Northern European markets such as Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, and Sweden. Garrad Hassan
Germany - Germany can generate 25 percent of its electricity from wind by 2020 if the government sticks to its plan of phasing out nuclear power, the nation’s wind industry lobby group said. Wind turbines onshore may reach 45,000 MW of installed power capacity, while offshore equipment will provide another 10,000 MW a decade from now, says BWE. Bloomberg
UAE - Wartsila has signed a contract with Lamprell plc of the United Arab Emirates to supply a complete ship power system for a new wind turbine installation vessel (WTIV). Wartsila's solution has been selected for its low fuel consumption, environmentally sound technology, and global service support. The vessel's owner is Fred. Olsen Windcarrier AS, and it is scheduled to be launched in summer 2012. This is the first in a series of two such vessels with an option for two more at a later date. Datamonitor
Germany - Siemens Energy has secured an order from DONG Energy to supply 111 wind turbines for what will be Denmark’s largest offshore wind power plant. The 400 MW Anholt Offshore Wind Farm will feature a capacity almost twice that of Horns Rev 2, currently the world’s largest offshore wind farm in operation at 209 MW. When fully operational, the Anholt Offshore Wind Farm project will provide clean energy for approximately 400,000 households. This equals approximately four percent of Denmark’s total power consumption. Siemens press release
USA - New Jersey has become a national leader in solar power with the help of a market-based incentive program. Legislative leaders now want to expand the program to include offshore wind projects in hopes of making the state a destination for developers. No offshore wind turbines yet exist in the United States, but states are in a race to be the first and biggest producers. The Philadelphia Inquirer
USA - The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has approved a plan to pay for the massive power line upgrades needed to boost construction of wind farms in the region. The Southwest Power Pool, a regional cooperative of electrical utilities, sought approval to spread the entire $1.1 billion cost for the larger lines across all of its five million customers in nine states. The Wichita Eagle
UK - Denmark-based Dong Energy has opened its new British offshore wind farm, Gunfleet Sands. The wind farm, located in the Thames Estuary off the Essex coast, is expected to supply green power corresponding to the annual power consumption of some 125,000 British households. The first green power from the wind farm was transmitted to shore in August 2009, and the entire wind farm having a total capacity of 172MW, went into production in March 2010. Datamonitor
